Penguins

Autumn 1

The Penguins have been very busy this week. In RE, we have been learning about Judaism and "Why learning to do good deeds is so important to Jewish people". The children learned about the story of Ruth and how kind she was to her friend and then made the characters to retell the story in small group.

In RE the children also listened to the song "Tikkun Olam" by Sheldon Low. This song teaches the importance of how we can look after and help repair the world, another Motzvot that is important to Jewish people. The children showed great team work as they created their own actions to the song.

In Science, we have been learning all about Life Processes this term and in our lesson this week, we focused on food chains. The children worked together to work out which animals needed to go where in the food chain to show how the energy passes from one animal to the next. Great resilience and team work again by the Penguins.

Autumn 2 Week 1

The children have settled quickly back into their routines and have shown a positive attitude to the term again. In Art this week the children have started to learn about Wassily Kandinsky and exploring line, colour and shape. This week the children had to draw around layered 2D shapes and then use the primary colours to show contrast with paint. The children also used a range of different natural materials to explore the differences between the marks they make.

Autumn 2 Week 2

During the Computing lessons this week the children have been exploring using digital devices to take photographs. The children were set the challenge to show team work as they took photos of each other and items around the school.

Autumn 2 Week 3

In Penguin class this week the children have been working so hard to prepare for our Nativity. They have been learning the songs, actions, script and stage directions, ready for our show in December. Keep up the hard work Penguins!

Autumn 2 Week 4 & 5

We are so proud of the children and the amazing Nativity performance they all took part in. After weeks of hard work and learning many songs the children shinned like super stars. We really enjoyed celebrating with our Christmas Dinner.

Spring 1 Week 1

The children have been working so hard this week in Maths. Year 1 have been investigating tetromino arrangements and Year 2 have been adding two numbers together to bridge ten.

Spring 1 Week 2

In Maths this week the children have blown me away with the persistence and resilience they have showed, even when things are were challenging.

Spring 1 Week 3

Another brilliant week in Penguin class! This week Year 1 have been having fun exploring the properties of 3D shapes. They built them with playdough and then compared the vertices, faces and edges of each shape. In Year 2, the children were able to all show a great understanding in how to add ten to a two-digit number. Well done everyone!

Spring 1 Week 4

In Science this term we have been exploring materials and their properties. The children were all very enthusiastic about testing which materials could be bent, squashed, twisted or stretched.

Spring 1 Week 5

In RE this term the children are focusing on the religion Christianity.  In this week's lesson the class have learnt what a parable is and they heard the parable of 'The Lost Sheep'. The children they worked together in small groups to act out the story and show their understanding.

To finish our Science topic on materials, the class conducted an experiment to test the absorbency of different objects: a paper towel, a cloth and a piece of paper. The children had to predict which objects they thought would be the most and least absorbent. The class had to ensure they completed a fair test and discussed the variables they would need to keep the same.

In Art this term the children have been learning about the work of William Morris during the Printmaking topic. In the lesson this week the children were printing with different fruits. The children made symmetrical patterns by printing on one side and then folding the paper in half.

Spring 1

This week we were able to consolidate our learning in Geography as we explored the local area around Lavenham searching high and low for physical and human features. The children were so well behaved and made the school proud!
